Empowering through Arts and Education

Learning Journeys @ Train Depots

SMRT Learning Journey is an educational outreach programme that shares the story behind what goes into your daily commute. The programme caters specifically for students from local P3s and above to Institutes of Higher Learning.

The SMRT Learning Journey brings participants to the following depots:

1. Kim Chuan Depot, the world’s largest underground depot and home to the fully‑automated Circle Line. The programme highlights safety and security features within our train network and offer participants a glimpse into our behind-the-scenes activities.

 2. Mandai Depot, where the Singapore Rail Discovery Centre (SRDC) is housed. The SRDC is the first of its kind by a public transporter operator in Singapore, is an interactive exhibition telling the story of Singapore’s railway and showcases our people’s technical expertise and the technological advancements we employ in the industry.

3. Ten Mile Junction Depot, home to the first Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in Singapore – Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT). Participants can understand more about the LRT features and embark on an experiential learning.

Learning Journeys are conducted only as a group for about 40pax on fixed dates, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Admission is free for MOE schools. Photography and videography are not allowed. For enquiries, please drop us an email at outreach@smrt.com.sg.

Adopt-A-Station (AAS) Programme

Started in 2014, the AAS programme is a community outreach programme for local Primary and Secondary schools. The programme aims to:

  • Gives students opportunity to serve the community by ‘adopting’ a station(s) near their school and build affinity with the neighbourhood.
  • Educate students on the importance of gracious and safe behaviour when travelling on public transport.
  • Spread gracious and safe commuting awareness to commuters, and to enhance their commuting experience.

Students can be given trainings to become SMRT Student Service Ambassadors, where they can assist commuters with general enquiries, promote safety in train stations and assist in platform duties such as crowd management and caring for passengers with special needs. We also welcome performances from schools in our MRT stations.

For enquiries, please drop us an email at outreach@smrt.com.sg.

Art in Transit

We believe in supporting the local arts scene. Since 2011, we have been working with Art Outreach, a non-profit organisation that promotes art education in Singapore, to conduct the Art in Transit tour. This is an art tour of the city’s public train stations, highlighting a series of key artwork and installations along the Circle Line. This guided tour showcases works created by Singaporean artists that reflect the cultural and historical heritage of the community and the area around the station.

Participants on Arts in Transit tours observing the "Dreams in Social Cosmic Odyssey" installation.
