Mr Abu Bakar Mohd Nor is a Director of SMRT Corporation Ltd.
Mr Bakar is concurrently the Group Chairman of Infofabrica Holdings Pte Ltd across their seven countries operations in South East Asia Region and the Chairman of Tampines Central Citizens Consultative Community for People’s Association and also M3@Tampines. He was the Managing Director (Gas & Specialized Vessels), Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd & Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd. He sits on various boards in Keppel Group companies and associates, such as Keppel Shipyard Limited, Arab Heavy Industries PJSC, Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd, Keppel Sea Scan Pte Ltd, Green Scan Pte Ltd, Marine Technology Development Pte Ltd, Keppel FELS Limited, Keppel Offshore & Marine Technology Centre Pte Ltd, Nakilat Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd, Baku Shipyard LLC, Keppel Nantong Shipyard Co Ltd., Keppel Nantong Heavy Industry Co Ltd., Keppel Singmarine Brasil Ltda, Maju Maritime Pte Ltd, Keppel Smit Towage Pte Ltd, Gas Technology Development Pte Ltd, FueLNG Pte Ltd, Caspian Shipyard Company LLC., Bintan Offshore Fabricators Pte Ltd, KSI Production (2017) Pte Ltd and KS Investments Pte Ltd. He also sit in the Pro‐Enterprise Panel, Ministry of Trade and Industries.
In addition, Mr Bakar sits on the Bureau Veritas South East Asia Technical Committee and on the Workplace Safety and Health Council (Marine Industries) Committee. Other notable appointments at the national and industry levels include being on the Board of Trustees of the Singapore Institute of Technology, the Board of PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, Singapore Maritime Foundation. Mr Bakar was previously appointed as the President of the Association of Singapore Marine Industries. Recently in May 2019, he was appointed as the Deputy President of Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Mr Bakar began his career in the Safety department and held various appointments in the Operations and Commercial departments at Keppel. In 2011, he was the CEO of Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (N-KOM), a joint-venture between Qatargas Transport Company and Keppel.
Mr Bakar has also served in various committees of the Ministry of Defence as a Member of the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence, Reward and Recognition Committee for Defence and was a Member of the SAFRA Management Committee where he chaired various SAFRA Clubs as Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
Mr Abu Bakar is the Chief of Staff of HQ 2 PDF Command, holding the rank of Colonel (National Service) in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). He also served as the Singapore President’s Honarary Aide-de-Camp to both Mr Ong Teng Cheong and Mr Nathan during their tenure as the President of Singapore.
In recognition of his contributions to the SAF and community, Mr Bakar received various long and good service medals including the Formation NSmen of the Year award in 1998 and the SAF NSmen of the Year award in 1999. He was also awarded the Commendation Medal (Military) in 2002, the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) in 2009, and the Public Administration Medal Bronze (Military) in 2015. In October 2017, Mr Bakar received the Beritia Harian Achiever of the Year Award in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the Community.
