The extension on Circle Line opens with two events held concurrently at Bayfront Station and Esplanade Xchange

Thousands of commuters and members of the public delighted in a double celebration today, as they rode the MRT to the two newest stations on the Circle Line (CCL). Besides reveling in the festivities for the launch of the CCL extension, they also took part in our Lunar New Year celebrations to welcome the Year of the Dragon.

The CCL extension commenced its service today, Saturday, 14 January 2012. This line links Promenade station to two new stations – Bayfront and Marina Bay stations, adding another 2.4km to the line.

It connects commuters to areas such as the Marina Bay Financial Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, The Promontory @ Marina Bay and the Marina Bay City Gallery easily.

To celebrate this event with our commuters in festive Lunar New Year style, SMRT held events at Esplanade Xchange and Bayfront Station concurrently.

Local celebrities Marcus Chin and Lin Ru Ping chatted with commuters, gave forecasts of horoscope with a pinch of joke and laughter, and gave out some of the 4,000 specially-designed Cepas card holders at Bayfront station. They were accompanied by 12 models togged out as the 12 Chinese Zodiac signs. Commuters were also given free Polaroid shots taken with these models.

Another 4,000 limited edition Cepas card holders were given out at Esplanade Xchange (Esplanade MRT Station) from 11am. These carried a separate design matching the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Xchange, where we gave out free calligraphy and paintings by local calligraphy experts from Life Art Society, between 11am and 5pm.
