Mr Chow Wai Yein oversees the company’s Safety, Security & Occupational Health governance, policies, and strategies. He also oversees the Business Continuity Management and works closely with all business units to ensure minimal disruptions to our operations as Singapore transits to a COVID-resilient nation. In addition, Mr Chow is also SMRT Group’s Management Representative for ISO 45001, 14001, 22301 and 9001.
In his concurrent appointment as Group Chief Corporate Support Officer, Mr Chow oversees the Corporate Support Group comprising Enterprise IT Department and Procurement Office to support SMRT’s strategic and operational objectives. The scope of Enterprise IT includes the governance, planning and project management to deliver cost-effective key IT systems, applications and infrastructure. Procurement Office serves as the central hub for acquiring best-value goods, services & works, and formulating & implementing policies that ensure ethical & compliant sourcing practices.
Prior to his current appointments, Mr Chow was Head, Bukit Panjang LRT and Vice President, Training of SMRT. In his appointment as Head of Bukit Panjang LRT, he led the team to deliver a high performance of rail reliability, safety, customer service as well as the daily operations and maintenance. As Vice President, Training, Mr Chow was responsible in the development of SMRT’s workforce capability to achieve excellence in workplace learning and competency.
Before joining SMRT, Mr Chow was with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) as a Military Engineering Officer, with experience in Operations, Maintenance, Logistics & Training. Subsequently he joined the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and attached to SBS Transit Ltd (Rail) as Head, Asset Management where he worked on the ISO55001 standards. He was also appointed as Deputy Head Coordination of Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit (LRT) and was involved in the Operations & Maintenance to achieve a high reliability of the LRT.
Mr Chow graduated from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) and a Master of Science (Logistics Management) from the Florida Institute of Technology, USA.
