Mr Abu Bakar Mohd Nor is a Director of SMRT Corporation Ltd, RTS Operations Pte. Ltd., WorkStation Pte. Ltd. and RTS Link Operations Pte. Ltd.
Mr Bakar is an accomplished business leader with extensive experience spanning the public and private sectors. He currently serves as Chairman of M Kapital Holdings, Forward Energy Greentech and Resources, Global Ambassador, and Vizzio Technologies. He also holds board memberships in Cloud Kinetics, BDx Holdings and BDx Asia Data Centre, where he drives growth strategies in the energy, data centre, artificial intelligence and digital technology sectors across Southeast Asia, China and the Middle East. Mr Bakar is also appointed Global Investment Ambassador by the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, China.
At the national level, Mr Bakar serves on the boards of the National Environment Agency (NEA), the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and Meranti Power Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Energy Market Authority (EMA). He was recently appointed Chairman of the Finance Committee at MUIS and Chairman of the Board Risk Committee at NEA. He is also a Board Member of the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). In addition, he serves as a Non-Resident Ambassador to the State of Kuwait and as a Justice of the Peace appointed by the President of Singapore. More recently, he was appointed to the Board of Visiting Justices and Board of Inspection under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
At the industry level, Mr Bakar is Chairman of the Workplace Safety and Health Council under the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), a Member of the Multi-Agency Workplace Safety and Health Taskforce (MAST), an Advisory Member of the Pro-Enterprise Panel (PEP) under the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), and an Individual Member of Yayasan Mendaki under the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). He also chairs the Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC) for Tampines Central under the People’s Association and was recently appointed an Honorary Member of the Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO).
In recognition of his contributions, Mr Bakar was awarded the Commendation Medal (Military) in 2002, the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) in 2009, and the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) (Military) in 2015. He received the Berita Harian Achiever of the Year Award in 2017, the Friends of Labour Award from the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the Public Service Star (Bintang Bakti Masyarakat) in 2022. In 2024, he was presented with the Lifetime Achiever Award by the Association of Singapore Marine and Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI) in recognition of his contributions to the marine and oil and gas industries in Singapore.
