Free regular and bridging bus services remain available
There will be no train services from Jurong East to Buona Vista stations on 30 September. We are working towards restoration of train services on Tuesday, 1 October, subject to weather conditions and after thorough testing have been successfully completed to ensure safety of commuters.
On 28 September (Saturday), we had completed repair and restoration work, which included the replacement of 33 segments of running rails, replacement of power rails, and completion of functionality tests on track point machines and trackside equipment. After which, stress and loading tests commenced to ensure the system could operate safely.
During stress testing, 12 new cracks that were previously not visible appeared on unreplaced rail segments along the section of westbound tracks from Clementi station to Ulu Pandan Depot. These cracks were due to the rail segments being weakened by the damaged train when it was travelling back to the depot on Wednesday morning.
LTA and SMRT engineers will require additional time to replace the 10 rail segments today. After the rail replacement, more stress testing will be conducted tomorrow to ensure safety and rail integrity before resuming full passenger service.
Commuters are advised to continue using the free regular bus services available between Boon Lay and Queenstown stations and free bridging bus services between Jurong East and Buona Vista stations. SMRT will also continue to operate shuttle train services between Buona Vista and Queenstown stations; and between Jurong East and Boon Lay stations in both directions.
Commuter safety is our topmost priority. We will carry out rigorous checks and tests, and ensure strict safety requirements are met before resuming full passenger service. We seek commuters’ kind understanding and patience while our workers do their best to safely resume service as soon as we can.
