Live Audio News Bulletins By The Straits Times Now Available Across SMRT’s Stations

SPH Media and SMRT Corporation Ltd today announced that audio news bulletins by The Straits Times (ST) are now live at 68 stations operated by SMRT. They include stations on the North-South, East-West1 and Circle Lines2, as well as the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit line. This builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the two organisations on 28 January 2026.

Commuters moving through these train stations can now hear English-language news bulletins from The Straits Times. The news bulletins, which run for three to four minutes, will be broadcast at the top of every hour, from 7am to 8.30pm, Mondays to Saturdays.3 SMRT is working to bring the audio news bulletins to more stations across its network.

Mr Kuek Yu Chuang, Managing Director of SPH Media, said, “This marks a meaningful first step in bringing trusted journalism to enrich commuters’ daily journeys. By making The Straits Times part of the station experience, we are able to reach commuters with timely, credible information while they are on the move. We look forward to extending this experience to even more touchpoints in the months ahead.”

Mr Ngien Hoon Ping, Group CEO of SMRT Corporation Ltd, said, “Both SPH Media and SMRT are organisations with a strong public service ethos. By combining SMRT’s network with SPH Media’s content, the public is better served with news they can trust, staying informed and up to date as they go about their daily journeys. We believe this partnership will enrich the commuting experience, and we are excited to be the conduit to bring quality news content to our commuters.”

This is the first of three commuter touchpoints under the partnership to go live. The second brings news highlights from The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao to SMRT's out-of-home digital screens at MRT station concourses, platforms, and selected bus stations.

The third introduces newspaper vending machines at SMRT-operated train stations, starting with Choa Chu Kang MRT station on 15 October 2026. This gives commuters an additional way to pick up The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Berita Harian, and Tamil Murasu on the go, with more stations to follow.
