12 August 2025
In preparation for the opening of the Circle Line Stage 6 (CCL6) in the first half of 2026, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SMRT have successfully completed the installation of a new Integrated Supervisory Control System (ISCS) for the Circle Line (CCL) in July, after six years of works. The ISCS is one of the core systems of the CCL, and monitors and manages power supply, communications and station facilities across the line. The existing ISCS system had to be replaced to bring it up to date with the systems that will be used for CCL6.
LTA and SMRT are now moving into the next phase of works to carry out systems integration testing across the entire CCL. This testing ensures reliable service can be delivered after CCL6 is completed.
During this phase, longer blocks of engineering hours are needed for the integration and compatibility testing to be carried out safely and rigorously. To provide these longer engineering hours and facilitate works, train services on the CCL will need to be adjusted from 5 September to 28 December 2025.
Temporary Service Adjustments
During this period, train services on the CCL will end earlier at 11.00pm on Fridays and Saturdays and commence later at 9.00am on Saturdays and Sundays. The weekends of 3 to 5 October, 28 to 30 November and 5 to 7 December will be excluded, i.e. train service will operate at regular hours during these weekends.
Besides regular bus services and alternative train services, affected commuters will have the option of using shuttle bus services, Shuttle 36 and Shuttle 37, during the late opening period from 5.00am and ending at 9.00am on Saturdays and Sundays. These shuttle buses will serve most of the CCL stations. Shuttle 36 will run between HarbourFront and Bishan stations, at intervals of 7 to 10 minutes. The second service, Shuttle 37, will run between Bishan and Promenade stations, with buses arriving every 3 to 5 minutes. The shuttle buses will charge the same fares as train journeys. Please refer to Annex A for more details of the shuttle bus services.
Commuters may experience up to 30 minutes of additional travel time expected due to the service adjustments. Thus, commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and refer to LTA’s MyTransport.SG mobile app, and LTA’s and SMRT’s social media platforms for more details. Notices will be displayed at affected stations, as well as at bus stops nearby, to inform commuters of the service adjustments. Station staff will also be deployed to assist commuters during the service adjustment period.
Looking Ahead
The CCL6 will close the loop of the CCL by connecting the HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations via three new stations. When the CCL6 opens, commuters can enjoy travel time savings of up to 10 minutes, with the closed loop providing a new viable route that is faster and more direct to and through the Marina Bay area. Commuters from areas like Paya Lebar and Mountbatten will benefit from more direct access to the Central Business District, and the HarbourFront and Kent Ridge areas.
We thank commuters for their continued patience and understanding during these train service adjustment periods, as we approach the completion of CCL6, which will improve connectivity and bring greater convenience for our commuters.
