Annual Trains Safety Forum 2023

SMRT Trains successfully organised its annual Trains Safety Forum on 6 Oct 2023. The event was attended by our colleagues in Trains, SMRT Board Members, Trains Senior Management, our Contractors, and guests from Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore, Workplace Safety and Health Council and ITE.

The theme for this Forum was “Forging Our Safety As One.”

The guest of honour, Chairman SMRT, Mr. Seah Moon Ming, opened the session by highlighting Trains' key safety performance achievements.  He was encouraged by the progress that SMRT Trains has made for Trains Safety Culture 2.0 in the past year.  He congratulated and also reminded the forum that despite our achievements, Safety is a relentless journey towards Excellence and there is no room for complacency.

Mr. William Tan, Chairman BSSC, delivered a keynote on the five strategies of Trains Safety Culture 2.0.  He shared examples on the operationalisation of these strategies and attributed the safety achievements to a focused effort on safety conversations at all levels. Our staff and contractors also lent their voices to the event by sharing their experiences to foster learning.

The session was concluded by Mr. Lam Sheau Kai, President Trains, who shared his reflections on the safety journey.  He expressed his gratitude to the Board and Management for their guidance and support, and closed the session by leading the participants in a recommitment to the SMRT Trains Safety Pledge.

As part of our commitments to develop the Singapore Rail Industry and engage our future workforce, the forum was held at ITE College West that offers the Rapid Transit Technology programme.  The faculty and students of the programme were also invited and joined the forum, learning about railway and our Safety Culture and to reinforce the safety mindset even before they come into the workforce.

There were also 20 exhibit booths of Safety Initiatives: showcasing safety initiatives in relation to the five thrusts.

As we wrapped up the annual SMRT Trains Safety Forum, we geared towards the outreach and cascade activities that will fill the days ahead. The annual SMRT Trains Safety Forum was just the start of a collective commitment and shared vision towards Safety Excellence;  we continue to “Forge our Safety as One, through Kaizen to achieve Safety Excellence”.
