Here at SMRT, October is designated STRIDES Safety Month.
For STRIDES Safety Month this year, SMRT Buses conducted ground safety engagements with Bus Captains, Bus Workshop Technicians and Bus Trainers to emphasise on traffic safety and commuter safety. Our STRIDES Care team also conducted refresher trainings for Silveray Drivers and Attendants that included a proficiency test on wheelchair operations.
The highlight of STRIDES Safety Month 2023 was the Annual STRIDES Safety Forum 2023. It was held at SAFRA Mount Faber on 13 October 2023, involving more than 100 participants including Chairman SMRT, SMRT's Board of Directors, GCEO, STRIDES Management, Contractors, Bus Captains, and guests from Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore, Workplace Safety and Health Council and Centre Heads of Nursing Homes.
Mr. William Tan, Chairman BSSC opened the session by sharing his guidance towards safety excellence and encouraged STRIDES to Kaizen to reach even higher standards and performance.
Mr. Seah Moon Ming, SMRT Chairman took the stage to present certificates to the winners of the WSH Council Workplace Safety and Health Awards and the Public Transport Safety and Security Awards. STRIDES has done well in these National Safety Awards with 11 winners this year.
Buses and Strides Care provided insights into their safety efforts and new initiatives to improve safety moving forward.
STRIDES is also using data and technology to improve safety. New Telematics has been installed in SMRT Buses and this new system will provide data analytics that serve as leading indicators in safety. Improvements in Fatigue Management for Bus Captains have also been implemented through the inclusion of new parameters in the rostering system.
The session closed on a high with Mr. Tan Kian Heong, President STRIDES Holdings leading the STRIDES Safety Pledge with all staff re-affirming the commitment to safety and all participants giving a resounding shoutout “Think Safety, Work Safely, Go Home Safe!”
