Fundraisers

To raise funds, we organised a series of fundraisers that spanned eight months:

Launch of SMRT Silver Tribute Fund and flag days within SMRT MRT stations

To launch the Fund, on Sunday 17 December 2006, President and Chief Executive Officer, Saw Phaik Hwa led an island-wide donation march comprising some 500 SMRT senior management, staff and elderly from Geylang East Home for the Aged and Bright Hill Evergreen Home.

A sea of red tees flooded Orchard, Tampines and Woodlands MRT stations as staff volunteers and beneficiaries collected their donation tins and fanned out across the island to collect donations for needy elderly.

SMRT Cram Jam!

SMRT Cram Jam! was launched on 11 February 2007 by Guest-of-Honour, Mr. Raymond Lim, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, at SMRT Bishan Depot.

Some 1,000 participants battled to enter into the Singapore Book of Records by squeezing the most number of people on board a SMRT train car, bendy bus and a Space MPV taxi.

In conjunction with SMRT Cram Jam!, SMRT held a Open House at Bishan Depot, where the public joined guided tours around the depot and visited a charity bazaar cum funfair, where the eight beneficiaries of the Fund took up booths and showcased their programmes and services for the elderly and caregivers.

SMRT Art for Charity

30 elderly, caregivers and Senior Citizen Award finalists unleashed their creativity for the SMRT Art for Charity fundraiser, creating 33 paintings that were put up for sale in aid of the SMRT Silver Tribute Fund.

At the painting session, participants freely expressed their creativity and emotions, under the guidance of local artist Andre Tan and art students. To enhance the learning experience, educational therapist Dr Noel Chia, and two dialogic diagnostic art therapists, Loke Ying Ying and Salanah Bte Mohd Ismail, facilitated group evaluative discussions with the participants - aimed at raising self awareness and learning as a group.

SMRT Charity Movie Premiere

The SMRT Charity Movie Screening at Cathay Cineleisure was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Mr. Lim Boon Heng, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office. Over 2,000 corporate sponsors, donors and beneficiaries attended the charity screening of the blockbuster Spider-Man 3.

SMRT Singapore Symphony Orchestra Charity Gala Concert

In a first-ever partnership with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), SMRT organised a Charity Gala Concert on 19 July 2007 at The Esplanade Concert Hall in aid of the Fund. The concert was attended by over 1,000 people comprising corporate sponsors, business partners, and beneficiaries.
