At SMRT, we believe our success has to be channeled towards the greater good of the community. Our Corporate Social Responsibility programme sets out to build an inclusive society and to make a positive impact on the economic, social and environmental well being of the communities we serve.
To enhance the lives of those around us, we have a sustained SMRT Cares programme of corporate philanthropy, volunteerism, environmental conservation and community outreach.
SMRT Silver Tribute Fund is a key activity under SMRT Cares programme.
What is SMRT Silver Tribute Fund?
We all have parents, grandparents and older relatives on whom we shower love and affection. But there are many elderly who have been forgotten, abandoned or have no family, and who have to face the harsh realities of ageing alone.
The SMRT Silver Tribute Fund is our way of giving something in return to these individuals who have given us and our nation their best years. It is our way of saying "Thank You for Everything!".
The inaugural SMRT Silver Tribute Fund was launched in December 2006 as a holistic corporate philanthropy and community outreach effort. It is SMRT's biggest corporate social responsibility initiative to-date and has since raised almost $1 million for eight beneficiaries. These beneficiaries and their programmes help the abandoned, lonely and needy elderly lead more meaningful and dignified lives. In the process, we also hope to strengthen the families and communities that care for them.
With Singapore's growing silver population, it is important for people to learn about the importance of active ageing, for their loved ones as well as themselves. Hence, another aim of this year's Silver Tribute Fund is to raise public awareness on this topic. An exhibition about active ageing will accompany our fundraising activities so that the public can benefit from knowledge about being an active ager.
