It is not a member of Community Chest and depends on donations from well wishers, public and organises its own fundraising activities to defray expenses.

“Geylang East Home for the Aged (GEHA) began 30 years ago with only limited funding. Everything had to be kept simple in order to provide the aged with necessities for basic living. What motivated us to strive on was our commitment to the work at GEHA. Two-thirds of our operating expenses came from generous donations from people of all walks of life through temple and personal donations.

SMRT Corporation Ltd has shown us a different aspect of management - staff from various departments and of all levels participated actively in our social welfare activity sessions. Through the four years of collaboration, we felt the sincerity, commitment and professionalism of these staff volunteers through the leadership of its management. We can learn much from such leadership and positive attitudes towards community work.”
