The first SMRT Silver Tribute Fund TV fundraising Show

This will be SMRT’s first TV fundraising show, and the organising team is letting nothing stop us from putting up a good show to rope in greater support for our Silver Tribute Fund. Undeterred by a change of plans – due to the general elections – just two weeks before the original 8 May show, we have rescheduled The Silver Tribute Charity Night for 5 June 2011.

A bevy of local and foreign artistes will be lined up for Singapore’s first fundraising show by a corporation. Many of the elderly we will be helping will be those with vivid memories of riding the first SMRT trains when they were rolled out in 1987.

These elderly are largely alone and in critical need of help from Voluntary Welfare Organisations just for simple needs such as shelter and food.

Help us to help them, because no one should have to suffer like they do in their twilight years. Just your phonecall to pledge a small sum of money will make a world of difference to them.

The show will be broadcast live on 5 June 2011, on MediaCorp TV Channel 8 at 7pm. A repeat telecast will be shown on the same channel at 3.30pm on 12 June 2011.

The Inaugural SMRT Charity Golf Tournament, in aid of Silver Tribute Fund
It was our first-ever, and we could not have asked for a more promising beginning for our SMRT Charity Golf Tournament, which was held successfully at Sentosa Golf Club on 20 April 2011.

From a target of 30 flights at the club’s Tanjong course, we ballooned to a total of 41 flights; resulting in us having to spill some of the players over to the club’s other course, the Serapong course. The amazingly keen support also propelled our fundraising effort beyond our target of $250,000. Through the kind contributions from our sponsors, we managed to raise more than $360,000 for our Silver Tribute Fund.

The players were mostly representatives from a list of multi-national companies and small and medium enterprises, many of them our clients and business partners who donated at least $5,000.

The day started off with a gloomy note as play was delayed due to lightning risks. The tournament commenced an hour behind schedule, but everyone still had a good game, and an entertaining and pleasant dinner.

Performances by a talented duo from our rail operations, and an attractive all-female quartet on stringed instruments entertained guests as they tucked into a hearty western meal.

Months of planning and hard work were rewarded with very positive feedback from the guests concerning the day’s event. But, more importantly, the event brought about a significant contribution to our charitable cause.

The golf tournament is one of the highlights in this year’s STF fundraising efforts. Our other major project will be the first TV fundraising show, to be held on 5 June 2011.
