Joint LTA-SMRT Media Release: Installation of Crossover Track Near Canberra MRT Station (Parts of North-South Line Affected over Vesak Day Long Weekend)

1.    To facilitate installation works for a crossover track near the new Canberra MRT station, parts of the North-South Line (NSL) will be closed over the Vesak Day long weekend from 18 to 20 May 2019. During this three-day period, shuttle bus services will be available for affected commuters.

2.    Admiralty and Sembawang MRT stations will be closed for three days from 18 to 20 May. Yishun, Khatib and Yio Chu Kang MRT stations will be closed for a day on 20 May. Normal train services will resume on 21 May.

3.    Over the three-day period, works to remove existing tracks, installation of the new crossover track, as well as testing and commissioning of signalling software for the newly-installed tracks will be carried out throughout the day.  

4.    Apart from the above stations, service on the rest of NSL will run as per normal throughout the long weekend. Shuttle Bus Service 10 will ferry commuters between Woodlands and Yishun MRT stations on 18 and 19 May, and between Woodlands and Ang Mo Kio MRT stations on 20 May. Express Bus Service 17 will also provide commuters with a point-to-point bus service between Woodlands MRT station on the NSL and Bukit Panjang MRT station on the Downtown Line, providing commuters with a faster and more direct journey to and from the city area.

5.    Fares for the shuttle bus services will follow the same fare structure as trains. Commuters travelling along the affected sectors are advised to plan their journeys and factor in the additional time needed for transferring between shuttle buses and trains.

6.    LTA and SMRT staff will be deployed at affected stations and shuttle bus points to assist commuters over the long weekend. LTA and SMRT will also monitor demand for the shuttle bus services and increase their frequency where necessary.

7.    Commuters will be informed of the changes to NSL train service via station and in-train announcements, walkway banners and posters at affected stations, radio messages on LTA Traffic News as well as the SMRT Connect App. Commuters are advised to check for updates on LTA and SMRT’s Trains’ websites and social media platforms.
