SMRT and Bombardier sign 10-year contract for long-term service support of trains for North-South, East-West lines
28 September 2020
Singapore’s pioneer and dominant rail operator SMRT Trains (SMRT) signed a contract with Bombardier Transportation (BT) for the provision of long-term service support for the 106 BOMBARDIER MOVIA trains which will be delivered to Singapore for the North-South and East-West lines (NSEWL), with support from the Land Transport Authority.
The 10-year service support contract ensures the ready supply of spares and parts for the maintenance of the MOVIA trains. The contract also engages BT to proactively monitor and develop solutions to obsolescence before they pose an availability concern.
Collaborating with BT as the MOVIA train designers, SMRT would be better poised to deliver high availability and reliability for the NSEWL. The partnership will enhance rail performance in a sustainable way, as SMRT remains committed to providing safe, reliable and comfortable journeys for commuters.
The 10-year contract, which includes an option to extend for a further 20-years, will commence in 2022, in tandem with the commissioning of the new MOVIA trains and their handover to SMRT.
